最近迷上波斯詩人哈菲茲(Hafiz)翻譯詩集，讀詩的好處是，篇篇很短，不用花很多時間，但一首好詩卻可以讓人坐在那裡回味許久，哈菲茲以讚頌愛與美酒的喜悅，以及直戳宗教偽君子為名，是神秘教派的蘇菲。

昨天讀到特別觸動我的一首詩是「成為人」(Becoming Human)。

成為人

一次，一個男人來找我聊了幾小時談論
他感受中「他看見神的偉大夢境」

他要我確認，說:
「這些奇妙的夢是真的嗎?」

我回答:「你擁有幾隻羊?」

他驚訝地看著我說，
「我在講一個奇幻崇高的夢境
而你問我
關於羊!!!」

而我再說一次:
「是的，兄弟–你有幾隻?」

「好吧，哈菲茲，我有六十二隻。」

「還有幾個老婆?」

他再一次地面露驚訝，接著說，
「四個」

「你的花園裡有幾叢玫瑰花，
有幾個小孩，
你的父母是否仍健在，
你在冬天時是否會餵鳥?」

他回答了所有問題。

你問我我是否認為你的夢境是真的
我想要說，它們是真的，如果它們讓你變得
更加像人

更加仁慈地對待
每個你知道的生物與植物。」

Becoming Human ~~Hafiz

Once a man came to me and spoke for hours about
“His great vision of God” he felt he was having
He asked me for confirmation, saying,
“Are these wondrous dreams true?”

I replied, “How many goats do you have?”

He looked surprised and said,
“I am speaking of sublime visions
And you ask
About goats!”

And I spoke again saying,
“Yes, brother-how many do you have?”

“Well, Hafiz, I have sixty-two.”

“And how many wives?”

Again he looked surprised, then said,
“Four.”

“How many rose bushes in your garden,
How many children,
Are your parents still alive,
Do you feed the birds in winter?”

And to all he answered.

Then I said,
“You asked me if I thought your visions were true,
I would say that they were if they make you become
More human,

More kind to every creature and plant
That you know.”
